Korean culture has suddenly taken over the trend in many cities around the world. The hit of Psy’s Gangnam style and the recent recognition of BTS and ‘Parasite’ as well as the rise in popularity of wider Korean entertainment has led to the world welcoming Korean culture with arms stretched wide open. This worldwide phenomenon is an intriguing, exciting and undoubtedly impressive step into a new trend and view on asian culture.
Among the many spotlights on Korea, the South Korean food culture has taken over many trendy food scenes around the world. With the unlimited access to information on the internet, Korean foods are being explored in ways that they have never been before. And with people becoming increasingly concerned with well-being, the nutritious and healthy Korean cuisines have gained more attention than ever.
Before I get any further, let me tell you a little a bit about myself.
I was born in South Korea, but came to the UK with my whole family only 2 months after I was born (Yes, I was 2 months old!). Since then it has been over 20 years since I have lived in the UK. Despite the difficulties, my parents have raised me in a Korean home, bringing me up exposed to Korean culture and Korean traditions. Korea is in my heart and I am very proud of my Korean origins. When Hayoung gave me an opportunity to get involved with LaLa Swallow and The Tradition Continues project, I immediately grasped the offer, hoping to help introduce the many wonders of Korean culture.
I think that the recent rapid rise in attention to Korea is unquestionably a movement that the country and culture truly deserves. The stir and rouse in interest and affection for my country is both touching and intriguing. However, Korea has a captivating culture that consists of a heart-breaking history and extraordinary modernisation process which resulted in fundamental, meaningful traditions. The recent trends have shown an amazing advance in popularisation of current Korean fashion and trends but have not seen much attention on the amazing Korean traditions.
Here at Lala Swallow, we are committed to introducing authentic products so that customers can explore traditional Korean culture. With the various trends branching from Korea we wish to emphasize the importance of maintaining and respecting the traditions that act as the fundamental foundations.
We want to help so that the tradition may continue on your own dining table.
‘The Tradition Continues’ is a project that aspires to do just that.
